The Shattered Isles

Ages ago, nestled among these islands, were several great civilizations. They traded, exchanged ideas, and flourished. Over time, however, rivalries grew; Kings became jealous of neighboring powers and sought to increase their own influence. Friends now drew lines in the dirt and declared war on anyone who crossed it. Thrown into turmoil and chaos, there was no longer an organized presence to keep monsters at bay. While busy fighting wars with each other, the rulers’ domains were being pillaged by marauders and foul beasts. Slowly but surely, the proud kingdoms crumbled away, leaving behind a fragmented image of their former glory.

Now, they struggle to hold onto what little influence remains. Major cities have continue to hold out, thanks to the presence of walls and guards. However, things don’t look so good everywhere else: villages routinely go missing in the night, never to be heard from again, merchants and trading vessels are frequently ransacked before reaching their destination, and even the relative safety of the walls can be put to the test when an ogre comes to town. Dark, dangerous times indeed…
